Cryptic tweet suggests Rangers on verge of signing Romanian sensation Ciubotaru
Kinetic Academy have suggested that Kevin Ciubotaru is set to sign for Rangers with a cryptic post on their Twitter account.
It has been speculated that Ciubotaru, 17, is set to sign a two-year contract with the Light Blues after plying his trade at South London’s Kinetic Academy, which is where Joe Aribo started off in the game.
Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath kickstarted the transfer talk with a now-deleted tweet that says the Romania Under-18 international is joining.
Kinetic Academy’s Twitter account then fed fuel to the fire by liking tweets about Rangers signing Ciubotaru and now, they’ve added a tweet that has the number 54, as well as emojis suggesting a deal is about to be signed.
As it stands, Kinetic Academy have had 53 players leave them to join professional clubs. Ciubotaru will be number 54 once he signs for the Gers.
Deal close
Ibrox News has been told by a source close to Ciubotaru to “watch this space” in regards to a potential move to Rangers for the young left-back.
We’ve also been told that the Romanian starlet is an attack-minded full-back, who can also play in a more advanced wing-back role.
Ciubotaru has been around Europe in his fledgling career and has previously had stints at Parma in Italy and Austrian side Rapid Vienna.
He was born in Austria but has already represented Romania’s youth teams at Under-15, Under-16 and Under-18 level.
We’re not going to expect fireworks from Ciubotaru just yet but he’s definitely someone to watch out for based on Kinetic Academy’s previous success.
As well as Aribo, Josh Maja also came through their academy and he’s set to sign for Stoke City before the January transfer window closes [Jacques Talbot].
We’ll watch Ciubotaro closely because he sounds as though he could be a real gem of a signing for the Gers.
In other Rangers news, this European club is ready to pay £7million for a Gers star.
