‘Horrible’ – Andy Walker reacts to ‘series of errors’ in Rangers v Ross County
Sky Sports commentators Andy Walker and Ian Crocker ripped into the Rangers defence after a ‘series of errors’ cost them two goals against Ross County.
The Bears took the lead in the fourth minute thanks to debutant Amad Diallo’s goal, but were behind before the half-hour mark after howlers from goalkeeper Allan McGregor and defenders Borna Barisic and Calvin Bassey just four minutes apart.
Ross County equalised after McGregor spilled an easy catch to allow Jordan White to tap into an empty net, something the Sky Sports commentary pair described as ‘horrible’ and ‘a gift.
“It’s an absolute gift from McGregor. I know the conditions aren’t the best today, but that’s an easy ball to take,” Andy Walker said.
Crocker then added that it was a “horrible moment for Allan McGregor.”
Four minutes later though, there was a sliced clearance in midfield which led to a poor headed clearance from Barisic.
The ball came back at the Rangers defence immediately and Bassey then completely missed the ball when going to clear it, allowing Regan Charles-Cook to sneak in and slot into the net.
“Another huge error proves very costly for the league leaders,” Crocker claimed on commentary. Walker went further, calling it a ‘series of errors’ and claiming the striker should never have even got the chance to score.
“He should never get a chance. It’s another gift. Goldson up into the air, Barisic with a poor header and then Bassey misses it completely. There’s a whole series of errors there from the Rangers defence. One from Bassey, two from Barisic.”
Shocking
For a team at the top of the Scottish Premiership, the level of defending on the pitch was absolutely shocking.
These are top level professionals and while that type of mistake can happen every now and then, to happen so close together is unacceptable.
Rangers had looked shaky in the first half and the fact they were punished on both occasions is a testament to the level that they’re playing at right now.
With a league title in their grasp, they cannot afford to concede easy goals and give themselves hills to climb.
It’s something that the team absolutely must cut out if they are to stand any chance of retaining their league title come the end of the season.
