Rangers want to sign Crystal Palace defender Daniel Quick

Rangers are in the race to sign Crystal Palace defender Daniel Quick before the transfer window closes on Monday (31 January), according to Eurosport journalist Dean Jones.

The 19-year-old has made the step up to the Eagles’ Under-23 team this season and has been an impressive performer at the heart of the team.

According to Jones, via Give Me Sport, there are four other clubs keen on Quick including German giants Borussia Dortmund and Premier League outfit Southampton.

“Rangers are interested in Dan Quick from Crystal Palace on a permanent deal, but there are others trying to sign him too, including Leicester, Southampton, Dortmund and PSV,” Jones said.

One for the future

As well as Quick has been playing in youth football in England, it is a huge step up to the top division in Scotland and a loan would be the most likely outcome if he arrives at Ibrox this week.

Crystal Palace’s website describes him as “A confident defender posing an aerial threat in both boxes,

“Quick is confident on the ball and able to play out from the back, always keen to get on the scoresheet from set-pieces but even more determined to keep a clean sheet.”

All of which sounds excellent in theory but he is still very inexperienced when it comes to senior football and throwing him into the deep end at Rangers could be a recipe for disaster.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst already has John Souttar joining the club in the summer from Hearts and his depth at centre-half is more than enough to cope so Quick’s addition certainly won’t be for an immediate impact.

Instead, the 19-year-old may be someone who breaks into the side in 18 months time or so and then pushes on to become a regular at Ibrox.

He would be 21 years of age by then which should see him either become an icon at the club or be sold on for a hefty profit.

Either scenario would be more than welcome to Gers fans.
