‘Fingers crossed’ – Ally McCoist hopeful Amad Diallo can take Rangers to the title

Ally McCoist believes new signing Amad Diallo could give Rangers an injection to help them to the Scottish Premiership title.

The Manchester United winger completed a loan to Ibrox for the rest of the season earlier this week and could make his debut for the club when they take on Ross County on Saturday lunch time.

Rangers legend McCoist believes that the arrival of the 19-year-old can provide ‘a little help’ that the team needed, which could in turn lead them to retaining their league title.

He told BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra: “This is what we’re all about.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing Diallo.

“Fingers crossed he can come up and express himself, go and play and enjoy it and he’s going to get an opportunity play and get more game time.

“I think straight away he’s got the fans going. He’s got the fans’ juices going. The fans are talking about him and looking forward to seeing him.

“And it’s something Rangers need, I said over the last couple of weeks that the Rangers support and the team more than anything needed a little help and little injection and hopefully Diallo will give them that.”

Amad’s signing quickly changed the mood around Ibrox back to a positive one, after news that Ianis Hagi will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.

The Romanian had been a key man under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, but he never quite suited the right-wing role naturally and would often move centrally.

Amad is a natural winger and will help to hold the width in the team, something van Bronckhorst is keen to see in his team.

With his pace, skill and hunger, Amad could well be the difference between Rangers and Celtic in the title race this season, which is down to just four points.

The two teams meet next week in what could be a big title decider, so Rangers need as much momentum as they can get heading into the game.

Amad’s arrival certainly provides that, so if he can deliver a performance in his debut then the Bears will be flying into the derby.
