Hammarby want £6.5m for Rangers-linked attacker Akinkunmi Amoo
Rangers have seemingly been priced out of a move to sign Hammarby attacker Akinkunmi Amoo, according to Vital Rangers.
On January 18, Bulgarian news outlet TemaSport reported that the Gers are interested in Ludogorets’ Kiril Despodov, Nacional Montevideo’s Brian Ocampo, Rijeka’s Robert Muric and Hammarby’s Amoo as they searched for a new right-winger.
However, it is understood that a move for Amoo, 19, is now unlikely with Swedish side Hammarby demanding a lot of money for their Nigerian forward.

Vital Rangers journalist Gavin Kelly said: “We have been told by a source in Sweden that Hammarby are looking for €8million – £6.5m – which would be a bit of a stretch for a proven player, never mind a teenager with raw talent, even if he is the best young player in the league – our contact saying ‘there is little, to no chance of it happening’.”
One for the summer?
It’s perhaps a bit harsh to say that Amoo is unproven.
In the 2021 Swedish season, Amoo scored 13 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions for Hammarby and also supplied five assists.
He played mainly on the right-wing but was also called upon to slot in the striker area and also the centre of the midfield.

In total, Amoo has 48 senior appearances for Hammarby and has also represented Nigeria’s youth teams at an international level.
He is, of course, unproven in a better European league and there’s no guarantee that he would be able to shine in Scotland.
But there are English Premier League clubs reportedly ready to take a chance on Amoo with The Sun reporting in December that a move to England is unlikely due to the slim chances of a work permit.
Amoo is one to keep track of though and Rangers’ Nigerian contingency may help grease the wheels in any potential move in the future.
In other Rangers news, the Gers are fearful of a major exit from Ibrox amid interest from abroad.
