Rangers swoop in to sign Amad Diallo after Derby County deal for Manchester United ace collapses

Rangers have swooped in to sign Amad Diallo on loan from Manchester United after a deal with Derby County broke down, according to The 4th Official.

In an update on Patreon, the reliable Gers source reported that Ross Wilson went “all in” to sign Diallo, 19, to beat at least three English Championship clubs to signing him after a move to Wayne Rooney’s Derby turned out to be a non-starter.

It is understood that Man United wanted Diallo to be a guaranteed starter wherever he moved and while he won’t be at Ibrox, the Premier League clubs also wanted him to join “an environment where he could get a taste of winning while experiencing the physical side of British football”.

The 4th Official, who were on the ball with Nathan Patterson’s move to Everton and have collaborated with Fabrizio Romano, add that once Rangers were aware of Man United’s stance, it increased their urgency and Giovanni van Bronckhorst helped get it over the line.

The source adds that a move for Diallo should be announced by the end of today [27 January].

Wow

Rangers have not wasted any time in trying to sign a new right-winger after Ianis Hagi’s season-ending injury was confirmed earlier this week.

Diallo joined Man United from Atalanta last January for around £19million [BBC Sport] but due to the wealth of attacking options at Old Trafford, the young Ivory Coast international has only managed to play nine times in the senior team.

Only one of those appearances has come this season when Diallo played just over an hour of United’s Champions League draw with BSC Young Boys.

Due to injuries, he’s also played just twice in Premier League 2 for Man United’s Under-23s. In one of those games, he scored twice and assisted another goal in a 3-2 win over Leeds’ Under-23s.

Diallo might take a while to get fully up to speed due to his lack of game-time but he’s an option for van Bronckhorst and the Gers definitely needed to add some strength in depth this month.

Our right-wing area is light – and was even before Hagi’s injury – so this is a welcome signing and it also serves as a bit of a statement to our rivals.

You can sign all the players you want from teams in Japan. We can sign players from Manchester United.
