Rangers keen on Manchester City midfielder James McAtee

Rangers have joined the race for Manchester City attacking midfielder James McAtee ahead of deadline day, according to TEAMtalk.

The 19-year-old is also attracting interests from Southampton, Brighton, Aston Villa, Leicester, Bournemouth, QPR, Blackburn and Swansea City after impressing in the Premier League 2.

However, Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is hoping that his good relationship with Pep Guardiola could persuade Man City into doing business with his side.

Solid quality

McAtee has bagged 14 goals in 15 appearances in Premier League 2 this season, weighing in with seven assists, and he could become a solid addition to the Rangers attack if he is able to replicate such form at Ibrox.

While the report does not specify if it is a loan or permanent deal, it is hard to see the English champions agree to let such a player leave permanently given his huge potential.

He has also managed 45 minutes of first-team football so far in 2021-22, and he will be expected to play much more at Glasgow should a move work out.

GvB and Guardiola struck up their relationship during their playing days at Barcelona, and that should influence a deal.

Rangers

Rangers could do with such quality in their bid to retain the title and win the Scottish Cup, and bringing in another sensation from Manchester will be a solid boost.

They just snapped up the highly-rated Amad Diallo on loan for the rest of the season from Manchester United, and a deal for McAtee could be in the pipelines.
