Rangers agree free transfer for Bacuna exit, Birmingham medical done

Rangers have agreed to allow Juninho Bacuna to join Birmingham City on a free transfer, according to the Glasgow Evening Times.

The newspaper reports on their website that Birmingham will not be able to match the 24-year-old’s current wages at Ibrox. However, a deal is still close to being agreed.

It is understood that Bacuna will move to St Andrew’s without the English Championship club paying a fee “although, Rangers have secured future clauses as part of the deal”.

The Birmingham Mail has reported that Bacuna had a medical with Birmingham yesterday [26 January] and has already been at their training ground in the West Midlands.

Done all but done

We wouldn’t be shocked to see this transfer confirmed today (27 January).

Bacuna was a weird signing from the very beginning because we simply didn’t need to add another midfield player.

The former Huddersfield player has since made just 12 appearances for the Light Blues and only three of them have been starts.

Bacuna played on the right-wing at times at Huddersfield but he was always used in the centre of the midfield by both Steven Gerrard and Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Rangers definitely need a new right-winger, especially with Ianis Hagi now ruled out for the rest of the season.

Getting rid of Bacuna is good for getting him off the wagebill but offloading him on a free transfer highlights how bad our summer business was.

John Lundstram hasn’t been at all great, Nnamdi Ofoborh arrived despite having a heart issue and Fashion Sakala has blown hot and cold.

Bacuna was the worst of the bunch though and the fact he’s moving to English Championship strugglers Birmingham sums up his level.

In other Rangers news, this Eastern European ace may emerge as a target for the Gers in the last few days of the window.
