Medical scheduled: Juninho Bacuna on verge of Rangers exit to join Birmingham City

Juninho Bacuna is on the verge of leaving Rangers to join Birmingham City, according to the Birmingham Mail.

The newspaper reports that the 24-year-old, who was signed by Steven Gerrard from Huddersfield in the summer, is already in England to undergo a medical with the Championship club today (Wednesday).

It is understood that Bacuna is at Birmingham’s training base to complete what looks like a permanent exit from Ibrox.

Stupid signing

Ross Wilson has a lot to answer for here.

Rangers didn’t really do much business in the last summer transfer window but it’s starting to look as though they signed Bacuna just for the sake of it.

We never needed another midfielder, especially one who’d not really done well at Huddersfield in the English Championship.

And now Bacuna’s spell at Ibrox looks to be over before it ever really started with the Dutch-born Curacao international playing just 12 times in all competitions for the Light Blues.

At least in going to Birmingham, he’ll be close once more to Gerrard, who signed him in the summer.

But Rangers’ moves in the transfer market have been really uninspiring since we won the Scottish Premiership title.

John Lundstram has been more bad than good, Bacuna hardly ever played, Nnamdi Ofoborh has been out with a heart issue, the jury is still out on James Sands while Fashion Sakala has only shown his quality in flashes.

We hope that Sands can come good and that once John Souttar arrives, he can be a major upgrade upon the likes of Leon Balogun and Connor Goldson.

But Bacuna going shows that the club is willing to get rid of players as soon as they can if they do not make the grade at Ibrox.

And Bacuna was never going to, if we’re honest.

In other Rangers news, this Eastern European ace may emerge as a target for the Gers in the last few days of the window.
