Fashion Sakala beaming to have Rangers ace back from int’l duty

Rangers attacker Fashion Sakala couldn’t hide his joy at having star midfielder Joe Aribo back from the Africa Cup of Nations ahead of schedule.

The 25-year-old was an instrumental part of Nigeria’s team but they were knocked out of the competition by Tunisia on Sunday (23 January).

He had previously missed Rangers’ games against Aberdeen and Stirling in the Scottish Cup but he should be back to play a part for Giovanni van Bronckhorst as soon as this weekend.

“Joe (Aribo) is one of our most important players so will be very nice to have him back,” Sakala said, as quoted by Football Scotland. “Of course, it is sad news for Nigeria but for us, he is a great guy to have in the squad.”

A big part to play

Sakala has been something of a bit-part player under van Bronckhorst but his moment in the spotlight could be coming up very soon.

Alfredo Morelos will be leaving Ibrox to go on international duty himself soon and that will mean a new leading man will be required.

Sakala is one of those who could fill the void with him and the recently recalled Cedric Itten the two likely candidates.

The Zambian has been getting tutelage from legendary striker Roy Maakay on improving his finishing ability and now could be the time to see it pay off.

van Bronckhorst will need it to as well given that Morelos will be absent for the crucial Old Firm derby on 2 February which could see the race for the title swing massively in either direction.

In other Rangers news, this Rangers star is in deep contract negotiations for a new deal at Ibrox.
