Athletic journalist reacts as Rangers forward Ianis Hagi to miss rest of the season

Rangers attacking midfielder Ianis Hagi will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury, as confirmed by Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The Atheltic journalist, Jordan Campbell has described it as “horrible news” suggesting it looked like “nothing incident”.

The Gers forward picked up a knock during the 4-0 win against Stirling Albion. He was in pain and was quickly taken off in the first half.

The incident didn’t look serious and it was previously thought that he would shake off the injury.

However, he underwent surgery yesterday (25 January) and will now miss the rest of the campaign. Campbell wrote:

Late move?

Hagi has been playing on the right-wing, a role that didn’t suit him.

However, he has been one of the most consistent performers this season and missing him would be a massive blow.

It remains to be seen how Rangers approach the situation.

With Joe Aribo, Ryan Jack and Scott Arfield back, will Van Bronckhorst change the system? Will he ask a pacey midfielder like Fashion Sakala in that position?

Van Bronckhorst did confirm that the club will look to sign someone if the right player is available.

Campbell is absolutely spot on here. The gap for the right-wing still remains and the club do have funds to fill that position.

Rangers have signed only player so far this month, with James Sands joining on loan from New York City.

Hearts defender John Souttar has agreed a pre-contract deal, and Rangers could look to bring him to Ibrox this month on a permanent deal.

The Gers will face Livingston in their next SPFL match on Wednesday at Ibrox.

In other Rangers news, this member of the Gers squad is close to signing a new contract.
