Ally McCoist shares ‘brilliant’ Rangers prank on Dundee United
Ally McCoist has recalled a prank from his Rangers playing days where he tricked his Dundee United opponent into thinking he was being substituted.
The ex-Ibrox favourite, who is always good for a laugh, shared how he took advantage of Freddy van der Hoorn’s weak eyesight to amuse himself and Mo Johnston.
Speaking on the talkSPORT breakfast show, McCoist said: “I remember Fred van der Hoorn, he played for Dundee United. He used to wear contacts because his eyes weren’t so good.

“Me and Mo Johnston were playing up front and Dundee United made a substitution and held the board up.
“I walked over and shook Freddie’s hand and said ‘well played mate, thanks for the game.’ He couldn’t see the board so he just ran over… it wasn’t his number!
“He gets about ten yards away from the halfway line and is told ‘it’s not you, you maniac. Get back on!’ He came back shaking his head with me in hysterics.”
Funny side
Football is an important business for a lot of people, and the emotions it stirs within tend to be on the more serious side.
But the former Scotland striker can never be accused of not seeing the funny side in most situations so it is no real surprise to hear this story from him.
The Dutch defender van der Hoorn spent five seasons at the Tangerines and played over 150 games so he must have come up against McCoist enough times to know what he was like.

But the Glasgow goalscorer can equally not be accused of neglecting his primary duties, as the former Ibrox player and manager is the club’s record goalscorer with 355.
It is a rare feat for a player to be so successful while maintaining such a light-hearted personality but that is what makes the pundit and commentator so popular still today.
In other Rangers news, Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in the situation regarding a new contract for this Gers man.
