'Matter of time' - Rangers talks to sign John Souttar in Jan progressing - report

Talks between Rangers and Hearts are ‘progressing’ over a bid to bring John Souttar to Ibrox in January, according to Barry Anderson.

The Bears agreed a pre-contract deal with 25-year-old Souttar for him to join the club in the summer, but both parties are keen to see him come this month instead.

Hearts had previously made it clear that it would take a ‘significant and satisfactory‘ offer [Daily Record] for them to allow Souttar to leave this month and it seems negotiations are underway.

While no deal has been agreed yet, Anderson says talks are ‘progressing’ between the two clubs and stated that it ‘seems a matter of time’ for a deal to get done.

Souttar was left out of the Hearts squad for the Scottish Cup game against Auchinleck Talbot on Saturday and he could have played his final game for the Jambos.

Get it done

At this point this is a deal that just needs to get done for the sake of everyone involved.

It’s clear that Souttar wants the move as soon as possible, hence signing on the dotted line for the summer already. It’s only Hearts holding the deal back and now their hand could be forced.

Souttar was booed by Hearts fans during their return to action in the Scottish Premiership in midweek which shows that the fans have washed their hands of him already.

Rangers need to find the price that makes sense for all parties and pay it, because it would be a big boost to their title chances to have added solidity in defence.

‘Matter of time’ is promising, but we all know that it means nothing until he’s wearing the blue shirt. Whether that’s this month or in the summer is the only question left.
