Chris Sutton: Carter-Vickers outperforming Rangers star Connor Goldson and Hearts ace John Souttar
Chris Sutton has suggested that Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers is outperforming Rangers star Connor Goldson this season.
The BT Sport pundit has suggested that Carter-Vickers, on loan from Tottenham, is the best defender in the league.
Sutton argues that the 24-year-old is performing better than John Souttar who is being reportedly targeted by the Gers.
Sutton wrote for The Daily Record (printed edition; 22 January; page 65): “The best defender in the Premiership is Cameron Carter-Vickers.
“The on-loan Tottenham defender has really impressed me. I wasn’t sure how he would develop at Celtic, but he’s been terrific.
“I look at the likes of John Souttar and Connor Goldson and I believe Carter-Vickers is performing better.”
Goldson back to his best
Carter-Vickers has done well this season for the Bhoys but it’s an exaggeration to say that he is the best in the league.
Goldson looked shaky at the start of the season, but he has returned to his best.
Under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Goldson has been an epitome of consistency, with Rangers displaying a strong defensive performance.
Goldson is a leader at the back, and he rarely makes big errors.
Rangers are determined to keep him at the club but his future still remains up in the air. He is yet to sign a new deal at the club, and could leave Ibrox as a free agent during the summer.
The Gers have agreed a pre-contract deal for Hearts defender John Souttar who has been in tremendous form this season.
He will also be a free agent in the summer but Rangers could look to bring him to Ibrox this month [BBC Sport].
