Tam McManus reacts to Alex Lowry Rangers debut v Stirling Albion

Rangers strolled to a comfortable win over Stirling Albion in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup on Friday night, with Alex Lowry impressing.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder came off the bench to replace the injured Ianis Hagi, grabbing the opener on his competitive debut, and it left Tam McManus thrilled, with the pundit taking to his personal Twitter account to react.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side ended up winning 4-0, and Lowry will now be hoping for more action for the senior side going forward.

McManus said: “Delighted to see Alex Lowry get a chance tonight for Rangers super talented young player & cracking boy.”

He reacted thus after his strike: “Buzzing for the kid. What a debut.”

Bags of potential

The Light Blues boast of some of the best youngsters in the land, and Lowry is one.

He has looked a class above the rest in the Lowland League, with five goals currently to his name.

GvB has already seen the type of player he is, dubbing him a big talent during the pre-match conference.

The plan was to introduce him later on in the game, but Hagi’s early injury gave him a chance, and he grabbed it with both hands.

Despite having over 37,000 fans at Ibrox, Lowry did not allow the occasion to get to him, feeling very much at home.

While the League Two side were not too much of a threat, that the teenager managed to put in a man-of-the-match performance while playing alongside the big boys speaks volumes.

Rangers

Fans will want to see more of him, and that should attract some of them to the Lowland League.

Scouts from England will surely be watching Lowry going forward if they have not started already, and Rangers need to find a way to hold on to him.

He will be keen on playing senior football regularly, and they just have to start giving him more opportunities.
