Rangers-bound John Souttar booed by Hearts fans v St. Johnstone
Hearts defender John Souttar received a hostile welcome as he played for the club for the first time since agreeing a pre-contract deal to join Rangers.
The Jam Tarts played host to St. Johnstone as the Scottish Premiership got back underway after the winter break on Tuesday (18 January) as they beat the Saints 2-0.
The Scotsman journalist Barry Anderson was at Tynecastle and fleshed out the details of Souttar’s reception from his own supporters.

“Some Hearts fans booing John Souttar here at Tynecastle,” Anderson tweeted from his personal account.
“We’ve also had a chant of “Souttar, Souttar, get to [swear]”. Other supporters clapped and tried to encourage him in the early stages of the game.”
Justified Decision
If your own fans are going to treat you like that, why would you stay?
Souttar’s move seems to have struck a nerve with Jambos fans and their reaction to him starting at the heart of their defence says he may have made the right choice.

Surely you could understand the amazing opportunity that playing for Rangers gives someone and how he can further his career while doing so.
You can understand why they wouldn’t be happy to see one of their best players leave the club, but they do still have him for the rest of this season and they should just enjoy their remaining time together.
You can’t imagine the actions of a large portion of the Tynecastle faithful has done anything to convince Souttar he has made the wrong call in choosing a move to Ibrox.
