Rangers could sign John Souttar for £250k – Barry Ferguson

Rangers could sign John Souttar from Hearts in January for half-price in January itself, claims Barry Ferguson.

Per the Scottish Daily Mail, Hearts have slapped a £500,000 price tag on the 25-year-old but Ferguson believes they could seal the deal for half that price.

He is of the opinion that the fans will not be too welcoming now that he’s on his way out.

Speaking on Go Radio, Ferguson said, “It depends on what kind of money he has available or if he can bring John Souttar in. I think that’s a real possibility now that it’s been released that John Souttar has agreed to come to Rangers.

“It might be difficult for John Souttar at Hearts now. I know the fans are disappointed so I think that Rangers are in the driving seat and maybe they can go and do a cut-price deal.

“Hearts were looking for half a million pounds if he was to go in the January window. Now I think you could be looking at half of that. You’ve now got a player that’s agreed to go; is his heart going to be in it?”

Good business

If Gers successfully manage to get the deal over the line for that sort of money then it will be seen as a brilliant piece of business.

It’s true that a centre-back is needed in January, regardless of whether or not Connor Goldson stays.

Hearts also know that they’re not going to have Souttar at his hundred per cent as his mind will already be in Glasgow.

The smart thing for them will be to cash in on the 25-year-old’s services and reinvest that money into the squad.

It makes little sense to hold on to player they know is going to leave for free in the summer.

Souttar is an asset for them and now is precisely the time they must cash in on his services.
