Rangers to 'attempt' to sign John Souttar for January after agreeing pre-contract - report
Rangers will ‘probably’ make an offer near the end of the month to try and bring John Souttar to the club in January according to Barry Anderson.
The Ibrox club confirmed on Friday night that Souttar had signed a pre-contract with the club to join in the summer after entering the final six months of his contract with Hearts.
Now Barry Anderson of The Scotsman has tweeted on his personal Twitter account that he ‘expects’ Rangers to make a play to bring the player in this month.
Responding to a fan he said, “Expect Rangers to have an attempt at getting Souttar this month. Although their offer will probably be nearer the end of the month. Depends whether their bid meets Hearts’ valuation.”
Not done yet
Just because we now Souttar is going to be a Rangers player next season now, it doesn’t mean this saga is over yet.
Rangers saw off competition from several Championship clubs to get the deal done but it’s been reported by Daily Record that Souttar would prefer to move this month rather than wait.
That puts Giovanni van Bronckhorst and the hierarchy at Ibrox in a good place when it comes to negotiations, but they will need to offer a good amount of money to get the deal done.
Hearts currently sit third in the Scottish Premiership, behind Rangers and Celtic, and will be hoping that with Souttar they can make a push for the top two with a good second half of the season.
Knowing they will be losing the ‘fantastic‘ defender at the end of the season anyway, they could choose to just be stubborn and hold out so it’s down to the Blues to convince them a move now is best for all parties.
