David Edgar reacts as Rangers sign John Souttar on a pre-contract
David Edgar has reacted after Rangers confirmed that centre-back John Souttar has signed on a pre-contract agreement from Heart.
Writing on the Heart and Hand Podcast’s official Twitter account on Friday evening, the club’s official media partner was delighted to see them snap up the 25-year-old Scotland international ahead of the summer.
However, he is hoping that a move can be fast-tracked before the end of the January transfer window so as to have Souttar link up with Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s squad heading into the second half of 2021-22.
Edgar said: “Welcome to Ibrox, John!
“Hopefully, a deal can be done this month.”
Rangers have done well to pip competition to Souttar’s signature, and while landing him for free at the end of the campaign is a huge deal, it appears they could be open to having him during the winter transfer window.
Heart are not likely to be open to such business, but a very juicy offer will surely force their hands.
GvB needs to strengthen at the back, and the Scotland international has the qualities needed to excel at Ibrox.
Rangers remain top of the table and will be hoping to have both Leon Balogun and Filip Helander return from injuries when action resumes after the winter break.
With left-back Calvin Bassey being deployed at centre-back sometimes due to the injuries, it is clear to see why the Dutchman could be open to having the Heart centre-back available this month.
Souttar will be walking straight into the starting XI should he complete his switch this month, and that will put the club’s mind at rest with both Balogun and Connor Goldson out of contract at the end of the campaign.
In other Rangers news, a report has shared which players GvB will allow to leave Ibrox this month.
