Danilho Doekhi will cost Rangers £2m to sign in January
Rangers can land one of their major transfer targets this month if they pay £2million to avoid disappointment in the summer, reports The Daily Record.
With Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven reportedly (ED in Holland) now interested in signing the Vitesse Arnhem captain it appears paying the cut price now might be necessary.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst is believed to be a “major admirer” of the Dutch defender and was hoping to pick him up for free when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Strike while the iron is hot
With the futures of current Gers defenders Nikola Katic, Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun all up in the air, the manager is thought to be looking to recruit at the back.
As well as interest in Doekhi he is also believed to be interested in bringing in John Souttar from Hearts, also on a free transfer.
But with interest in both players growing thanks to their availability the Light Blues face missing out if it comes down to a contract bidding war.
In the case of Doekhi, while signing him for free would of course be the most comfortable option it is by no means guaranteed.
The club will not want to be frittering away the record transfer income gained from the sale of Nathan Patterson to Everton, but a relatively small expense would make long-term sense if it is the difference between van Bronckhorst getting his man or not.
In an ideal world two new starting centre-backs would arrive at Ibrox without transfer fees in time for next season, but rather than risk missing out Rangers should consider securing one now for a small fee.
In other Rangers news, this rival team has reportedly lined up a replacement for their Rangers-bound player.
