Rangers must sign starlet as Ronald De Boer tells Simons to leave PSG

Former Rangers player Ronald De Boer has offered advice to the Ibrox-linked teenager Xavi Simons on the Dutch TV show Rondo.

The 18-year-old is in the last six months of his contract at French giants Paris Saint Germain and his agent, Mino Raiola, saying he won’t sign a new deal.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst is said to be interested in bringing the Dutch youngster to Scotland [AS] and his former teammate wants to see Simons move on.

“I really think he suddenly became a man, a guy,” De Boer said, “before that he was really frivolous and very shy, really a young player.

“He’s so young and that’s the problem with PSG, you have to be as exceptional as Kylian Mbappe for example.

“He just needs to start playing for several hours, but is he going to? (Can he continue) his evolution and the national team?

“Chances are he won’t get that in Paris. A Dutch club would be good for him, Ajax, PSV or Feyenoord.

“That’s the top three [for me], otherwise I think there are other clubs who would like to have him.”

Hearing teams such as Ajax, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord being interested in one of your own targets is a kick in the teeth for Rangers but that doesn’t mean they should temper their hopes of signing Simons.

As of now, it is all rumours that the trio of Dutch football’s greatest clubs want the teenager but van Bronckhorst’s interest seems to be more concrete.

And maybe van Bronckhorst can use his connections with De Boer, who played together at Ibrox, and the further Dutch football contingent to tempt Simons away from the grasp of other clubs.

Simons has long been tipped as a future star of Dutch football and he has been impressing for the PSG youth sides but he has;t been able to break into Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team.

Now he hopes to leave the Parisiens in the summer and have a fresh start elsewhere and Ibrox is as good a place as any.

In other Rangers news, van Bronchorst’s special phone call has tempted an international star to return to Ibrox in January.
