Middlesbrough keen on January deal for Rangers midfielder John Lundstram

Middlesbrough want to sign Rangers midfielder John Lundstram during the January transfer window, according to Daily Record.

Boro boss Chris Wilder is a fan of the 27-year-old after their four years together at Sheffield United, and he is monitoring his situation at Ibrox after falling down the pecking order.

Lundstram has only started two out of the nine games the Premiership giants have played under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, and the arrival of James Sands could further deal a blow on his playing chances.

Possible?

The Liverpool-born midfielder would not have seen himself struggling to play regularly at Rangers after joining on a free in a three-year in the summer.

Things have changed, though, as Steven Gerrard – who once dubbed him an absolute powerhouse – no longer calls the shots, and GvB does not appear to be a huge fan of his.

The Dutchman could be open to letting him go, and given his contract situation, Rangers have a chance to get something tangible for a player they spent nothing on.

Middlesbrough will have to be willing to meet their demands to have a chance of landing Lundstram.

Wilder has been tasked with taking them back to the Premier League, and that could appeal to the out-of-favour Rangers man.

The Bears could do with more cash right now despite recently selling Nathan Patterson to Everton, and Lundstram could be open to leaving just six months into his contract.

Given his quality and talents, he has what it takes to force his way into Van Bronckhorst’s starting XI, but most of the fans will not bat an eyelid should he be sold.
