Giovanni van Bronckhorst reacts to double Rangers awards

Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst has given the credit to his players and staff after winning his first Scottish Glen’s Manager of the Month award.

The Gers boss won six out of six in December without conceding a single goal and joins striker Alfredo Morelos as a winner after the Colombian picked up the player’s equivalent.

But the Dutchman was not interested in keeping the acclaim to himself upon receiving the award.

“I think the start of my career at Rangers has been very positive, and I am very proud to win this award, but I think what is behind the award is much more important,” he said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

“It means we have done a great job and my staff who have come with me and the staff who are already here have helped me a lot and have worked hard to achieve the wins we have had.

“Also, the players – I thank them as well for all the work they have done in the last weeks and month, and that is why I have got this award. It means you are doing a good job and gives me more motivation to kick-on.”

Perfect start

It comes as no surprise that both the manager and the goalscorer at Ibrox picked up the monthly awards considering the fantastic form the team has shown.

The former Feyenoord manager could hardly have wished for a better start in Glasgow as his arrival appears to have revitalised the reigning-champions.

Sitting six points clear at the top of the league and into the knockout stages of the Europa League, any doubts that the exit of title-winning manager Steven Gerrard could destabilise the club would appear to have been put to rest.

But van Bronckhorst does not appear to be a cult of personality sort of boss and recognises the collective effort required for a football club to be successful.

If players and staff can continue working in unison to the same degree through the second half of the season then there could be additional individual awards to follow.

But those at the club will feel just like the fans in having their sights set on team honours in the form of trophies at the end of the campaign.

In other Rangers news, there are regrets in Scotland that this PL star did not get a debut at Ibrox.
