Rangers defender Jack Simpson wanted by Middlesbrough

Rangers defender Jack Simpson could be on his way out of Ibrox in January, with Middlesbrough reportedly keen to sign him.

According to reports from The Scottish Sun, Boro are set to offer a loan deal for the 25-year-old.

Simpson is out-of-favour at Ibrox, and Rangers have told him that he can leave in January if there’s a good offer on the table.

Sensible

Simpson joined from AFC Bournemouth in the January window of 2021, signed by Steven Gerrard.

He has managed only 11 appearances for the Scottish champions and didn’t really meet the standards expected of him.

His career at Rangers has stalled, and a move away from Ibrox will do a world of good for him.

He has started just two games this season, and the Gers are more than happy to let him go. Boro boss Chris Wilder is an admirer of the defender, and a move away from Ibrox is on the cards.

Ideally, Rangers would want him to leave permanently, but even a loan move wouldn’t be a bad scenario.

His potential departure would free up the wages and space for any new arrival. It’s a sensible move for all parties involved.

Rangers are reportedly looking to make defensive reinforcements despite signing James Sands, with Connor Goldson’s long-term future remaining up in the air.
