Rangers boss van Bronckhorst wants deal done for Danilho Doekhi to replace Connor Goldson

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst wants to sign Danilho Doekhi as a potential replacement for Connor Goldson, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported via their print edition on Saturday [8 January, page 123] that van Bronckhorst is “keen to get a deal done” to sign the 23-year-old Vitesse defender.

Doekhi’s contract at the Eredivise club expires at the end of the season, meaning the Light Blues can agree a pre-contract deal with the Dutchman ahead of him joining in the summer.

Major defensive shift

We’re fully expecting to see a completely new defence at Ibrox by the time next season comes around with Goldson and Leon Balogun both coming to the end of their contracts.

As well as that, Jack Simpson is out of favour and there have been some rumblings that Nikola Katic is unhappy about his squad number being handed to new addition James Sands this week.

Katic has deleted everything off his Instagram profile, as people may do when they break up with their partner to erase any trace they were ever with that person.

Doekhi is 23-years-old but is already the captain of Vitesse and also has around 120 senior club appearances in his career.

Rangers

He’s big and powerful and sounds as though he would be a good replacement for exit-bound Goldson.

Filip Helander, if he can prove his fitness, may stay on at Ibrox but van Bronckhorst will need to make other additions to the side.

Sands is seen as a midfielder right now but he can play as a centre-back so we’ll have to see if that changes if we’re hit with more selection issues at the back.

In other Rangers news, Tom English has mooted a Gers swoop to sign this “classy” forward in January.
