Rangers made to wait as Leeds delay decision on Crysencio Summerville loan – report

Rangers will have to wait for an answer on whether they will be able to loan Crysencio Summerville this month after Leeds delayed making a decision, according to James Marshment.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst had been linked with a reunion with the 20-year-old winger [The Scottish Daily Mail (01 January; printed edition, page 112)] after giving him his breakthrough at Feyenoord as a teenager.

Rangers face competition from Blackburn [Daily Record] for the Dutch starlet, with both clubs keen on a loan move to provide him with regular football and bolster their attacking options.

But according to TEAMtalk editor Marshment, Leeds have delayed making any decision on his future as they await updates on the fitness of Joe Gelhardt, Tyler Roberts and Rodrigo.

The club don’t want to be left in a position where they’re short on numbers, and know that if any of their first-team stars are missing for a long period of time then it’s Summerville who would step into the fold.

Pressure

Rangers have been keen on the young winger for a while, but it seems as though they are now under pressure to get a deal done.

With Blackburn losing Ian Poveda to injury, their relationship with Leeds is pretty good and they could use that to leverage a deal to sign Summerville from under Rangers’ noses.

While the Ibrox side also have their eye on Andreas Skov Olsen for the winger positions, GvB has got experience of working with Summerville and it’s clear he fancies a reunion.

With Leeds delaying making a decision, the club now need to decide whether they want to wait on it or move ahead with alternative plans and risk letting him go elsewhere.

Rangers need to plan for themselves and on their own schedule, so perhaps pushing ahead for a move with Skov Olsen to ensure that someone is brought in for a position they’ve identified as needing strengthening is what’s needed here.
