Rangers defender Leon King set to be promoted to senior team after contract extension

Rangers have decided to promote 17-year-old defender Leon King to the senior team after handing him a new contract, per the Scottish Sun.

The sensation has been putting in good performances for the B team and could be in line for some game time until the end of the season.

He is understood to be rated highly by a lot of people at the club and has been a mainstay for the developmental side.

First-team ready?

It’s always a big step to play professional football no matter how good one is playing for the youngsters.

The level and tempo of the game are at a different level and so are the expectations.

Rangers do not have a defensive crisis per se, but could do with additional reinforcements at the back.

It’s good that King was not tempted by interest from other clubs as there always is that urge to try representing oneself for a senior team.

The Daily Record linked him with a move to Premier League as Steven Gerrard was looking at a possible reunion at Aston Villa, but King decided to commit his future to the Scottish club.

Now that he’s staying, Giovanni van Bronckhorst is expected to view him as one of the options going forward.

Hopefully, he goes on to have a phenomenal future at the Ibrox as many expect him to do.

In other Rangers news, a ‘Fantastic’ Gers player may have played his final game for the club and his Ibrox exit seems set in stone
