Rangers allow Jack Simpson to seek January exit

Rangers have reportedly allowed defender Jack Simpson to leave in January after failing to find his way into Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s plans.

According to the Scotland Herald, the club will not stand in the way of the 25-year-old who is wanted by a host of English clubs.

Gers are looking at Hearts defender John Souttar who is in the final months of his contract at the club.

Let him go

Simpson is doing little for his development by staying at Rangers so an exit could be a good option for him.

With there being considerable interest in him, it’s best to let him leave, either on a permanent basis or loan.

Tim Davis, his former youth coach at Weymouth labelled him “amazing” [Dorset Echo], but he clearly hasn’t lived up to the billing of late.

Souttar could prove to be the ideal player to bring in, more so because of Connor Goldson’s future.

Much like the English defender, Souttar too is in the last few months of his deal and will be a free agent in the summer.

Rangers

For that to not happen, the club would either have to get him to sign a new deal or he would have to find a new team in January, the latter of which being the likelier option.

Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom has already admitted that they’re interested in the 25-year-old so Gers will have to act quickly to snap up his services.

It remains to be seen how they handle this situation and how this saga pans out in the coming weeks.
