Ally McCoist: Rangers selling Patterson to Everton in £16million deal is massive
Rangers sold Nathan Patterson to Everton earlier this week in a £16million deal, and Ally McCoist has told talkSPORT it is a huge move.
The Scotland international right-back, 20, joined the Premier League in an initial £12million deal, with further add-ons worth £4million to become the Ibrox side’s record transfer exit.
Patterson struggled to play regularly for Rangers, featuring in only 12 Scottish Premiership games, and McCoist was delighted that they could manage to get such a fee for his signature.

The Light Blues legend said on talkSPORT this morning (6 January): “I do like him, I think it is good business all round.
“And I think it is tremendous money for someone that has only played 15,16 games and effectively wasn’t in the team to tell the truth.
“[James] Tavernier was keeping him out of the team.
“That said, really exciting boy, great going forward, great to watch and I wish him all the very, very best.”
True
Patterson only featured in 26 games across all competitions for the Bears, but they always insisted suitors parted with top dollar for his signature, knocking back two bids from Everton last summer.
£16million is not a lot of money for a Premier League side like the Toffees, but it is massive for a club like Rangers, and they will be looking to utilise some part of it this month.
Giovanni van Bronckhorst has been tasked with retaining the title, impressing in the knockout stages of the Europa League and winning the Scottish Cup this term, and he could do with some quality additions.
Rangers do not see themselves as a selling club, but they cannot refuse £16million for a fringe player, and they certainly got a huge deal out of this.

The English moneybags will be coming for a couple of their best players in the summer transfer window, and they should not be selling anyone of them for less than £20million if they agree to a deal.
Making some £40million on players’ sales in the next transfer window will be massive for a club like Rangers, and they need to make the most out of such deals.
In other Rangers news, a report has shared which players GvB will allow to leave Ibrox this month.
