Vitesse defender Danilho Doekhi speaks about Rangers interest

Rangers’ January transfer target Danilho Doekhi has spoken to regional broadcaster Omroep Gelderland about his potential exit from Vitesse Arnhem.

The 23-year-od defender is out of contract at the Dutch Eredivise side in the summer and Giovanni van Bronckhorst is keen to bring him to Ibrox [De Telegraaf].

Doekhi though says there has been no contact to his current club yet and he isn’t a fan of winter transfers.

“They follow me, but there are several clubs,” Doekhi said on Rangers’ interest.

He then went on to say, “As far as I know, no club has come knocking on Vitesse’s door yet.

“I’m not so much in favour of a winter transfer, but of a departure in the summer.”

Patience Required

Doekhi’s comments are cause for concern for Rangers fans as the longer he remains available, the more teams could become interested in his services.

They will remain keen to get a deal done sooner rather than later but they may have to accept a deal in January just won’t happen.

It’s time, therefore, to show some patience and believe that the attraction of Rangers, Ibrox and the Scottish Premiership is enough to convince him to join in the summer.

And should it pay off, Doekhi would arrive a whole lot cheaper than he would if he moved in this transfer window.

In a financial environment where bargains are more important than ever, acquiring a player of Doekhi’s ability for free would be an impressive coup for van Bronckhorst.

The manager will for sure have his connections in his homeland that he could exercise to help get the move over the line.
