Rangers need to win EuroMillions to sign Paris Saint-Germain ace Xavi Simons – Edgar

Rangers have no chance of signing Xavi Simons from Paris Saint-Germain this month, according to David Edgar.

Writing on the Heart & Hand Podcast’s Twitter account on Tuesday, Rangers’ official media partner ruled out the possibility of a move for the 18-year-old attacker due to him getting senior game-time at PSG.

AS reported on 1 December that the Gers were in talks over a January deal for Simons but Edgar’s update this week suggests that it’s a non-starter and fans can forget about the Dutch wonderkid heading to Ibrox.

Always unlikely

Simons is such a highly-rated young player that it was always going to be tough for the Light Blues to be able to sign him.

We feel as though the speculation that linked Simons to Ibrox simply came about due to Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s appointment as our manager.

Simons was at Barcelona, a club Gio played for in his playing career, before he joined PSG and is also Dutch.

Simons is only young at the age of 18 but he’s still made four appearances for the PSG senior team.

He’s played twice this season for the Parisiens, with both of those appearances coming in the Coupe de France.

On 3 January, he assisted one of Kylian Mbappe’s three goals in a 4-0 win over Vannes, suggesting he’s able to make a mark with some of best players in the world.

Rangers could sign someone like Simons on a loan at some point but let’s face it, PSG will probably want him to develop in a strong league than the Scottish Premiership.

In other Rangers news, another two signings are expected at Ibrox after James Sands’ deal is done.
