Rangers could sign former Juventus defender Kwadwo Asamoah

Rangers may enter the market to sign former Juventus defender Kwadwo Asamoah, according to The Daily Record.

The 33-year-old is a Ghana international and is currently available on a free after his contract with Cagliari expired in the summer.

His versatility is one of his key aspects and that could tempt Giovanni van Bronckhorst into signing him on a six-month basis.

He quit Juventus in 2018 and played for a couple of seasons at Inter Milan after that.

Good move?

Borna Barisic has not performed as per high standards this season and could do with having someone in reserve pushing for his spot in the team.

Calvin Bassey, who normally plays that role, has moved to centre-back due to the injuries in the squad.

Having a player like Asamoah, whom they could get in on a free transfer may not be the worst idea in the world.

He might be 33 with his best days behind him, but he certainly is a solid player who could put in a shift right until the end of the season.

GvB has made free signings of this nature in the past so it won’t be a surprise if he does the same once again.

Asamoah’s wages might be the only stumbling block, but given the fact that he’s currently out of work, he’s unlikely to be overly demanding.

It remains to be seen whether Gers actually follow up on this or if they’re more interested in making signings for the longer term.

In other Rangers news, the club are set to announce a major signing this week with a big development on the cards in the next 48 hours
