Rangers could replace Connor Goldson with Mateo Musacchio

Rangers could reportedly enter the race to sign former AC Milan defender Mateo Musacchio who currently is a free agent.

According to The Daily Record, Giovanni van Bronckhorst is not afraid to sign veterans and the 31-year-old could fit the bill perfectly.

Given Connor Goldson’s uncertain future and Filip Helander recovering from injury, the Dutchman could turn to Musacchio as a stopgap option.

Not a bad idea

To add to the aforementioned duo, even Calvin Bassey will be unavailable for a while as he’s headed for AFCON duty.

This makes it all the more important for Rangers to look for reinforcements in January.

They’re not the most well off teams in terms of finances so making a move for a free agent could be on the cards for the defending champions.

The 31-year-old former Argentina international, who has been labelled “magnificent” in 2017, would come to Ibrox with bags of experience and leadership nous.

He would also serve as an example for some of the younger players in the dressing room.

Being an Argentinan and playing for a number of quality managers, he would know how to organise defences and would offer a vocal presence on the pitch.

He could be tempted by the fact that Gers are playing European football and that might see him make a return to the game and enjoy a six-month cameo.

In other Rangers news, the club are set to announce a major signing this week with a big development on the cards in the next 48 hours
