David Edgar reacts as Rangers defender Leon King pens new deal
David Edgar has reacted after Rangers confirmed that Leon King has put pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him at Ibrox until 2024.
Writing on the Heart & Hand Podcast’s official Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon, the club’s official media partner was delighted to see the 17-year-old defender commit his future to the club.
King’s contract was due to expire at the end of the 2021-22 season and he had been in discussions for some time over an extension.
Edgar said: “Delighted to hear this. Big hopes for this kid!”
Good news
King has been a mainstay at centre-back in the B team, making his first-team debut under Steven Gerrard in November 2020 against Falkirk in the League Cup.
He made his league debut in May 2021 and will be keen to break into Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s first-team plans going forward.
King was recently linked with a move to Premier League, with Gerrard eyeing a reunion at Aston Villa, but Rangers have moved to quickly tie him down.

Sporting director Ross Wilson has claimed that the teenager will now move into the first-team group on a permanent basis between now and the end of the season, and he will be keen to prove himself to the Dutchman.
Rangers recently lost Nathan Patterson to Everton and will be looking to prevent their most talented and promising youngsters from leaving Ibrox going forward.
King still has a long way to go before establishing himself in the first-team, but he has the potential and is one to keep an eye on.
In other Rangers news, a report has shared which players GvB will allow to leave Ibrox this month.
