Sky Sports pundit reacts as Nathan Patterson seals Rangers exit

Rangers full-back Nathan Patterson has secured a move to Everton, the Ibrox club have confirmed.

Sky Sports pundit Craig Moore has suggested that it’s a “wonderful” business from Rangers, and it puts the club in a good position to reinvest.

The 20-year-old has penned a deal that will keep him at the club till 2007.

According to reports from The Athletic, the deal is worth an initial £11 million, and it’s a club-record fee received by the Gers, eclipsing what they received from Tottenham Hotspur for Alan Hutton in 2008, which was in excess of £9 million.

“This is probably the first move towards that (outcoming business) in terms of selling your assets at the right price, keeping a strong position,” said Moore to Sky Sports (transfer live blog, 4 January: 15:20)

“I believe Rangers have done that. There are some other assets that I am sure over the next year or two, will move on.

“That’s an important part of the business. It puts Rangers in a wonderful position just to be able to continue to strengthen.”

Brilliant business

Patterson is a highly talented young defender and it’s really sad to see him leave the club.

He is a product of the club’s academy and has got immense potential.

The youngster has already made six appearances for the Scotland national team.

However, Patterson has struggled for game time at Ibrox, with skipper James Tavernier ahead of him.

Tavernier has been in excellent form and he occupies the same position. The youngster felt it is hampering his rapid progress.

Rangers rejected offers from Everton during the summer. However, the latest offer from Everton is too good to turn down.

The Gers should be looking to reinvest that amount into the squad, with signing a right-back is now a priority.

Everton badly needed a right-back, and the move suits all parties involved.

In other Rangers news, David Edgar says the Gers will sign a “promising” replacement for Patterson.
