Dharmesh Sheth shares what Jermain Defoe told him about Rangers transfer development

Dharmesh Sheth has shared a conversation he had with Jermain Defoe about Nathan Patterson leaving Rangers for Everton.

On Tuesday (today), the Gers confirmed that Patterson, 20, had agreed to leave Ibrox in a club-record transfer, which is widely reported to be worth up to £16million.

Earlier in the day, Sky Sports journalist Sheth spoke to Defoe about the Scotland right-back and he gave Everton fans a big reason to be excited about their new arrival.

“I did speak to Jermain Defoe earlier on today – I’ll just drop that name in,”

“I definitely called him about four times before he answered but in all seriousness, he’s a player-coach at Rangers and I asked him, ‘what kind of player are Everton getting?’.

“And I think Everton fans will be very, very pleased considering what Jermain Defoe said.

“He said he sees him every day in training and the words he said to me is, ‘this kid is going all the way to the top,’ and he knew as soon as he saw him in training, he knew that he was destined to be playing in the Premier League.”

He’ll be a star

Patterson has gone from strength to strength at Ibrox in the last year.

Last season, he had that issue that saw him banned due to breaking COVID protocols but as soon as he returned, he showed why everyone in Scottish football needed to stand up and take notice of his talents.

Patterson impressed while James Tavernier was injured and whenever he stood in for the Light Blues’ captain and also played a huge role for Scotland in reaching the World Cup qualification playoffs.

Patterson’s impact has been felt at Ibrox, at Hampden Park and now it’s going to be felt in the Premier League at Goodison Park.

Everton have an ageing right-back in Seamus Coleman so there’s a spot for Patterson to take in Rafa Benitez’s squad and also someone very reliable and very experienced who he can learn even more from.

We’re 100 per cent sure that Patterson will be a success down south.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are in pole position to sign a player who van Bronckhorst really wants.
