Brian Laudrup names Rangers transfer target that ‘excites’ him

Brian Laudrup has urged Rangers to try and sign Bologna star Andreas Skov Olsen in January as a ‘very good option’ for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s system.

Rangers currently sit top of the Scottish Premiership six points ahead of Celtic and have qualified for a mouth-watering Europa League knockout tie against Borussia Dortmund next month.

But according to former player Laudrup, there is one position that could be strengthened by the new manager and he believes there is an obvious candidate to fill the role.

Writing in his Daily Mail column, via Glasgow Times, Laudrup says he has been ‘excited’ to see the Ibrox side linked with his fellow countryman Skov Olsen and believes he would be a ‘very good option’ for the club.

“He’s been fantastic for Denmark recently,” he said. “It hasn’t worked for him so far in Serie A, with talk he could even be allowed to leave on loan, but I know from my own career that Italy can be a difficult place at times.

“If you are looking for a hug the line player, a real creative force, then Skov Olsen ticks the boxes. I think he would be wonderful to watch in a system like Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s.

“I’d see Rangers as a very good option for him if an opportunity was to arise. He’s a crowd pleaser. But an effective one, too. He’s not a type you see that often. Even on a short-term deal, he’d be able to do something and deliver for the team if played in the right areas.

“Other clubs have been linked with Skov Olsen, too, so we’ll need to wait and see what happens there. But Patterson’s move might give Van Bronckhorst the chance to put a little more of his own stamp on the Rangers squad.”

Stamp

This January window is a chance for Van Bronckhorst to really stamp his own vision on the Rangers squad and bringing in an exciting winger is certainly something that could do that.

The Dutch coach has shown a preference for a 4-2-3-1 system so far since joining the club with his wingers staying high and wide, which has seen the club go unbeaten under his tenure.

While Ryan Kent and Ianis Hagi have somewhat cemented their places in the starting lineup, Joe Aribo’s future is up in the air and that could see his place become up for grabs.

Skov Olsen is only 22-years-old so fits in with the profile of the squad and the type of player Rangers usually sign, while a loan would lessen the risk even further should it go wrong.

It seems as though a deal is there to be done, so Van Bronckhorst would be best placed to move quickly to secure it before someone else does.
