Rangers also braced for Joe Aribo and Glen Kamara interest as Nathan Patterson heads to Everton

Rangers are worried about losing Joe Aribo and Glen Kamara as well as Nathan Patterson this month, according to The Times journalist Paul Joyce.

Writing on The Times website on Monday, Joyce reported that Patterson, 20, is closing in on a £16million move to Everton after the right-back grew frustrated with the lack of opportunities he was getting at Ibrox.

And it is understood that after Patterson’s exit is sealed, the Gers’ attention will turn towards keeping hold of impressive midfielders Aribo, 25, and Kamara, 26.

Irreplaceable

Should Rangers sell a young and inexperienced fringe player for up to £16million? Absolutely, they should.

But should they sell two of their best players who are mainstays of the midfield, established internationals and played key roles in our title-winning season last time out? Absolutely not.

Aribo and Kamara are irreplaceable and selling them halfway through the season could have a disastrous impact on the Light Blues’ bid to win a second consecutive title and secure qualification to the Champions League group stages.

Aribo’s going to be with the Nigeria squad for the Africa Cup of Nations so signing someone to serve as a back-up for him could make sense but there’s no need to sign someone to replace Kamara or play behind him in the pecking order as our central midfield options are well-stocked as they stand.

If they’re going to leave, let them leave in the summer and not right now.

The money pocketed from selling Patterson is a club-record fee and is more than enough for Giovanni van Bronckhorst to make whatever signings he wants to make, plus the money the club already had in the bank, without selling anyone else.
