Nathan Patterson on verge of £16m Rangers exit to join Everton

Rangers right-back Nathan Patterson is on the verge of leaving Ibrox to join Everton, according to Sky Sports journalist Sahil Jaidka.

Writing on Sky Sports’ website, Jaidka reports that the deal that takes the 20-year-old to Goodison Park is worth a club-record initial fee of £12million, plus a further £4million in add-ons.

The Athletic adds that Patterson’s move to Merseyside will see him “multiply his wage several times over and could also help secure his spot as first-choice in the Scotland national team”.

Crazy money

If you’re an Everton fan, you might look at this as seeing your club spend £16million on a Scottish club’s second-choice right-back, who’s only made 27 appearances in senior club football.

But for us Rangers fans, this is a stunning piece of business and while we don’t want to see our best young players go, at least the club is getting a massive financial reward for it.

Patterson is a very good young player and had our right-back position not been held down by captain James Tavernier for several years, he would have been our first-choice.

However, he’s essentially a squad player at Ibrox and any bid should really be considered for someone who’s not starting regularly.

Patterson has a lot of talent and is bound to be one of the best right-backs in the Premier League once he’s fully developed.

But we just cannot turn down that kind of money. It’s a game-changer of a deal for the Gers, who could really solve their centre-back issues by reinvesting some of that money back into the squad.

In other Rangers news, a player will decide on which team to join in the coming days amid interest from Ibrox.
