Rangers interest in Veerman heightens with January looming

Rangers could reignite their intentions of bringing Heerenveen midfielder Joey Veerman to Ibrox in January, according to Glasgow Evening Times journalist Chris Jack.

The 23-year-old was previously linked with the Gers during Steven Gerrard’s tenure as manager [Daily Record] and it appears new manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst may have a similar opinion of Veerman.

Reliable journalist Jack feels the Dutch midfielder is someone who may help to improve van Bronckhorst’s options at Ibrox.

“I think he’s the type of player that the team and the squad could do with and it might be one that Rangers could actually improve,” Jack told GiveMeSport.

“You’re not just buying into his ability right now, you’re buying into his potential as well.”

Much needed reinforcement

Rangers may be sitting pretty at the top of the Scottish Premiership but nothing is ever quite that simple.

Their six point lead over old firm rivals Celtic is a healthy one but there could be problems on the horizon with some of the Gers star players being closely watched by scouts from all across Europe.

Joe Aribo is expected to be on the way out of Ibrox with just 18 months left on his contract and Premier League clubs, including Gerrard’s new side Aston Villa, hoping to strike a deal with the Nigerian international.

The signing of Veerman would be a much needed and crucially, ready made replacement for Aribo if, or indeed when, he leaves the club.

van Bronckhorst does have the relief of knowing that Glen Kamara committed his future to the club earlier this year which should limit the damage in January.

He also has Ianis Hagi, Steven Davis and Scott Arfield capable of filling the void in midfield without needing to rely on his youth team players that might not be ready.

In other Rangers news, Aribo’s former coach thinks he could bring in ‘incredible money’.
