Kenny Miller names Rangers duo in Premiership team of the season

Sky Sports pundit Kenny Miller has named Rangers left-back Calvin Bassey and midfielder Joe Aribo in his Premiership team of the season so far.

The Ibrox outfit are top of the table half-way through the season, with seven points between them and closest challengers Celtic, and a lot of the players have been in fine form under new boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Rangers have won all their seven league games under the Dutchman, but only two of them were good enough for Miller’s Team of the Year.

The former Light Blues star said (via the Daily Record): “At left-back, I know Calvin Bassey’s been playing centre-back, but he’s a left-back by trade so I’m going to go with him.

“I’ve tried to stay away from just the Old Firm but the midfield are three Old Firm players.

“Callum McGregor sitting, with Tom Rogic, who has been absolutely rejuvenated under Ange, and Joe Aribo, who has been Rangers’ most consistent player.

“Three unbelievable players. They can all contribute in any area.”

The Nigerian duo have been superb this season, and the 21-year-old is unlucky to have missed out on his country’s AFCON squad.

His versatility has come in very handy so far, playing comfortably out of position in the absence of Filip Helander and Leon Balogun.

Bassey is slowly establishing himself as a very important player for Rangers, and he could be in contention for the official team of the season at the end of 2021-22.

Aribo has been consistently brilliant all campaign, and he will be keen to prove himself at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Scouts will definitely be watching him at the tournament in Cameroon, and the Bears’ chances of holding on to him beyond the summer are looking increasingly slim.

The midfielder has been linked with a couple of Premier League teams already, and that list will surely continue to grow in the coming months.

Aribo has been one of the best players in the Premiership this season, and Rangers are lucky to have landed him for free.

He will definitely be fetching them top dollar in the coming months.
