Salford make last-ditch move to take Rangers attacker Josh McPake on loan
Salford City have joined Tranmere Rovers in a bid to sign Rangers attacker Josh McPake on loan in January, according to Football Scotland.
The 20-year-old was recalled from his Morecambe loan spell, and while Carlisle also agreed terms with Rangers and Tranmere boss Micky Mellon quickly moved to strike a deal, fellow English League Two outfit Salford have “launched an eleventh hour bid.”
Salford made an enquiry over McPake’s interest level in joining their side, and they are happy with the response they have gotten from the Rangers youngster.

Spoilt for choices
The Light Blues forward was poised to join Tranmere and is still interested in a move, but things could change after Salford boss Gary Bowyer made it clear that he is extremely keen on bringing him to the Peninsula next month.
Rangers want the best for their academy graduate, and they will be hoping he chooses a side where his development can continue after injuries hindered his growth at Morecambe.
Tranmere are currently third in the table and vying for promotion, while Salford are a mid-table at the moment.
It remains to be seen whether that would influence McPake’s decision, but he needs to join a side where he is guaranteed regular playing chances.

He has the potential to break into Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s team going forward, but he needs to prove it out on loan first.
Rangers are hoping more of their academy graduates can follow in the footsteps of Nathan Patterson, and it will be interesting to see how he fares in the second half of 2021-22.
