Rangers media partner Heart and Hand have reacted after national clinical director Jason Leitch predicted that the current restrictions could be extended.
A three-week restriction on crowd have been put in place, but Leitch reckons the peak of the Omicron wave will not come until mid to late January [The Scottish Sun], and that has raised the prospect of fans being locked out of the Old Firm game on February 2.
The game between Rangers and Celtic was moved from this Sunday (2 January) due to rules limiting outdoor events to 500 people, and Heart and Hand have taken to their Twitter account to react with recent comments from the professor hinting at the possibility of playing the game behind closed doors.
They said: “Who saw this coming? Oh aye, that’s right. Everyone.”
Game to be postponed?
Could a second postponement be on the cards if things escalate?
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon imposed restrictions on big events for a three-week period starting from December 26-27, but the rules could stay in place for even longer if the new variant of the new virus keeps spreading.
Almost 30,000 new Covid cases were recorded in Scotland over the three-day Christmas period, with the number of positive test results hitting over 11,000 on Boxing Day [The Scottish Sun].
Rangers would have loved to play Celtic at Parkhead on January 2 as opposed to the new date but even that could now be in doubt.
