Brian Laudrup believes Alfredo Morelos form is down to transfer window approaching
Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos’ new lease of life may be motivated by the upcoming January transfer window, according to Brian Laudrup.
Morelos had been linked with a move away from Ibrox for several transfer windows, only to stay put under the tenure of Steven Gerrard.
But since Gerrard’s departure in November, Morelos has found a new wave of brilliant form under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, scoring six goals in eight games to help fire them to the top of the table.

With the January transfer window approaching, former Gers midfielder Laudrup wrote in his Daily Mail column, via Daily Record, that he believes Morelos was ‘miserable’ to watch but feels the new management team have found the right motivation to get him playing again.
“It was miserable to watch,” he said. “And I said at the time that Van Bronckhorst would have to be both motivator and coach to stir Morelos back into life. A new kind of input was needed to restore him as an asset to Rangers, both on the pitch and in the transfer market.
“Look at Morelos now. Six goals in eight games since Van Bronckhorst arrived. A proper focal point for the attack once more. Whatever is being said behind the scenes is hitting the right spot.
“Perhaps the management team have been blunt: ‘Look, Alfredo, if you really want to go to a bigger league at some point in the future then you better start showing your best side from now on.’
“Because, as I said previously, who exactly would want to buy him when he was producing the no-shows of a couple of months ago? A queue wouldn’t have formed.
“We have seen a completely different Morelos recently. He’s more aggressive in his approach to games in a constructive way. And I think he looks leaner physically, too. All of that must be down to the new management team.”

Perfect plan
Whatever it was that GvB did with Morelos since he came into Ibrox, it has worked perfectly.
Morelos has become a brilliant outlet for the Rangers midfield, with his hold-up play excellent and his finishing as clinical as ever.
Gerrard previously described him as ‘unplayable‘ and he has managed to recover that form right in time for the January transfer window.
Having previously been linked with a move to the Premier League and La Liga, at 25-years-old he is the perfect age to become a key figure in a European side in one of the top leagues on the continent.
His current contract expires at the end of next season in 2023, so the next two transfer windows are key to his future.
If Rangers get an acceptable offer then Van Bronckhorst will be under pressure to let him go, knowing he has been trying to leave for a while now and that he is capable of causing chaos behind the scenes and on the pitch.
