Michael Stewart reacts to Rangers win against St. Mirren

Michael Stewart has reacted to Rangers impressive form under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, insisting Steven Gerrard’s exit is a blessing.

The Dutchman guided his side to their seventh league win in as many games under him against St. Mirren at Ibrox on Boxing Day, with the Bears comfortably running out 2-0 winners.

Stewart was impressed with the performance of the Premiership defending champions, praising them on BBC Sportsound.

The Former Scotland midfielder said: “Dare I say, Steven Gerrard’s move has actually benefitted Rangers.

“Giovanni van Bronckhorst seems to have reinvigorated the team.”

Pleasing

Stewart hardly praises Rangers, and when he does, they must have really blown him away.

The Light Blues are yet to lose under GvB, and going six points clear at the top of the table heading into the break is massive.

Gerrard started the title defence well, but the team were far from impressive as they have been under the Ibrox hero.

They could end 2021-22 without a league defeat under him if they continue at this rate, and their growth and positive changes cannot be denied.

Rangers have become a completely different side, with almost all the players improving individually.

Alfredo Morelos has notched six goals in eight games under the new manager, and that speaks volumes.

Gerrard’s legacy at Ibrox remains intact, but van Bronckhorst could soon surpass it if he ends this campaign performing well in the three competitions his side are still involved in.

He will be looking to make major improvements during the winter break, and should things go as planned, his team could blow everyone out of the water going forward.
