BBC man Colin Moffat praises Rangers ace Alfredo Morelos v St. Mirren
Rangers strolled to victory over St. Mirren at Ibrox on Boxing Day, with first-half goals from Scott Wright and Alfredo Morelos getting the job done.
The Colombian hitman continued his impressive form under Giovanni Van Bronckhorst, and BBC Scotland’s Colin Moffat was impressed during the live text commentary on the website, praising him for regularly causing the visitors’ defence problems.
Morelos has now bagged six goals in eight games under the new Rangers manager, and that form would come in very handy going forward in 2021-22.
The journalist said during the first half: “Alfredo Morelos is again causing the problems.
“The Rangers forward latches onto a loose ball on the edge of the box, but blasts over with his left foot.”
Morelos now has 107 goals for the Bears, tying him with Alan Morton and Alex Scott at 33rd in the club’s all-time scoring charts.
He has the record of Derek Parlane in his sights, and is just four goals away from getting to 111 strikes.
The Colombian has been a new player under GvB, and fans are surely loving what they are seeing.
The Premiership defending champions are yet to drop any points under the Dutchman, and they will be heading into the winter break six points clear of Celtic at the top of the league table.
Rangers have Morelos to thank for that, and should he resume action on the same form, retaining their title and going far in the Europa League knockout stages should not be an issue.
His suitors would have been alerted again by now, and he will be doing his chances of being at next year’s World Cup with Colombia loads of good if he continues this way.
His talents have never been questioned, but his lack of consistency during the last days of Steven Gerrard’s reign worried many, and to see him firing on all cylinders again is pleasing.
