Rangers media partner Heart and Hand reacts as Postecoglou calls for five subs

Rangers media partner Heart and Hand have reacted after Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou requested for the number of substitutions to be increased to five again.

Premiership clubs face a heavy schedule heading into the second half of 2021-22 due to Covid-19 enforced postponements, and the Hoops boss reckons increasing the subs would come in handy.

Heart and Hand have aimed a dig at the Celtic boss, suggesting on their official Twitter account that playing behind closed doors and having five subs would play perfectly into the hands of Rangers.

They said: “BCD (Behind Closed Doors) and five subs? Just give us it now.”

Good move?

January’s Old Firm derby, which has now been postponed, was set to be played in front of just 500 people at Parkhead after First Minister Nicola Sturgeon made the rulings on outdoor events earlier this week.

Celtic won the title in 2019-20 after the coronavirus brought an abrupt end to the table, but playing behind closed doors and having five subs in 2020-21 saw Rangers bounce back in style.

Steven Gerrard led his side to a title, blowing the Hoops away as they won the Premiership undefeated.

The Ibrox outfit clinched the title on March 7, 2021, and that became the earliest date the Premiership has been won.

Could history repeat itself if the SPFL heed to Postecoglou’s advice?

Rangers

The surge in covid could see games with reduced fans, and the authorities could approve the five-sub rules given the number of games on the cards.

Those two factors definitely boosted Rangers chances of winning the league at a canter last time out, and the players would fancy their chances if it happens again.
