Rangers could be handed Old Firm boost with Kyogo and Rogic unavailable

Rangers could be handed a massive boost ahead of the rescheduled Old Firm derby with Celtic set to be without Kyogo and Tom Rogic.

The duo are set to play in World Cup qualifiers when the two Glasgow clubs meet in February. Although, there is a chance for Japan’s Kyogo to avoid international duties due to strict covid guidelines.

The issue occurred after the Old Firm clash was postponed following the SPFL’s decision to start the winter shutdown after Boxing Day.

When asked about the issue affecting their clash with the Gers, Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, played down the situation.

Postecoglou said as per the Daily Record: “If they get called up they will be.

“There is a lot of violin playing around the place, we are not going to be one of them.”

Rivalry

Celtic being without two top players will certainly benefit Rangers, but it should change very little.

Form and in a way personal go out the window in a derby, especially an Old Firm. Every player is giving their absolute all to win the game and stamp their mark on the opposition so Kyogo and Rogic will be replaced with two more like minded players.

This will be a huge game in terms of the title. There is no telling where the two teams will be come February, but the Bears currently hold a six-point advantage over their neighbours.

Rangers will hopefully be looking to extend their lead on Celtic as they look to secure back-to-back titles after securing their 55thleague title whilst stopping Celtic from achieving ten in a row last season.

Rangers mustn’t allow the deficit to be reduced when they travel to Celtic Park on February 2. A draw would be a positive result in maintaining that gap between first and second but Rangers will no doubt go for the win as they look to tighten their grip at the top.
