Dr Dan: David Graham appointment an important step for Rangers

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Rangers...

Rangers have made a good decision to appoint David Graham as communications director to their board.

That’s according to Dr Dan Plumley, who claims that the club are keeping in line with modern trends and it’s a step taken in the right direction.

Rangers also appointed Kenny Barclay as their finance director along with the Graham announcement.

These decisions were made to coincide with the Ibrox club’s 150th anniversary which will be marked in 2022.

Discussing this behind-the-scenes change, Dr Dan, the Sheffield Hallam University expert, said, “The modern world is more tech-focused and based on social interactions.

“A comms director can help with making the club a global brand and you can bring a fanbase on board and keep them on board with good comms. It is exciting.

“It’s very important that Rangers have appointed someone in that role, especially after the pandemic.”

Barclay’s career has involved stints at Ernst & Young, Arnold Clark and Pricewaterhourse Coopers and he has also been the group finance director at TBR Global Chauffeuring.

Graham, on the other hand, has been the club’s PR Chief since last year and has now been promoted to a more senior position.

In other Rangers news, the club want to sign a ‘Fantastic’ England international who is 28, and could get him to sign a pre-contract once the January window opens on 1st.
