Journo makes Rangers v Celtic being played in England joke

Rob Harris jokes that Celtic and Rangers should ask if their Old Firm clash on January 2 can be played in England after Nicola Sturgeon’s announcement.

On December 21, Sturgeon made the decision to impose a strict rule of having just 500 people at stadiums for the next week.

This announcement was made to combat the rapid spread of the Omicron variant and will impact Gers’ game against their arch rivals next month.

Harris, who is AP’s Global Correspondent, said on Twitter, “If Celtic and Rangers asked if they could play their game on January 2 in England…”

Baffling

This was an Old Firm clash many were looking forward to and it’s ridiculous that Sturgeon decides to make such an announcement.

Given how rampant the spread is in England, we’re not seeing any harsh measures being implemented there.

Even though so many games are getting called off due to infections in the dressing room, the leagues are continuing to go on.

However, here in Scotland, things are governed slightly differently and football fans are the ones paying the price.

The idea of having an Old Firm at a neutral venue would be thrilling but we don’t think that is a feasible situation.

What is more likely is for Sturgeon to make certain exemptions and ensure that Scottish football does not have to get affected in this way.

However, we do not see that happening either which is an absolute shame.
